Applying for a mortgage

To fill out the standard mortgage application, you’ll need to answer detailed questions on your financial situation and the property you’re buying — and you’ll need the paperwork to back up your answers.

There’s no standard list of documents that lenders request. Lending laws and regulations vary from state to state and each lender has its own specific requirements. It’s a good idea to ask your lender in advance what paperwork it will need to process your application.
